Work more efficiently with XR Livorno: the new features you should know about

gds GmbH presents a comprehensive update of its XML content management system with the new release XR Livorno 2.4.4. The new version offers a number of improvements that not only make editorial work more efficient, but also significantly improve the translation process and media management. It focuses on more precise control of document structure, an easier user experience, and less effort for repetitive tasks.

Variant preview: Clarity at the press of a button

With the new variant preview, you can specifically filter the document structure by variant profile. Content can be grayed out or hidden completely depending on the setting. This gives editors an overview even of complex variant structures. Practical: The filter settings you've made will remain in effect and apply to module editing in the editor as well.

Partial translation: Edit only new content

XR automatically detects what content has been changed in modules and fragments – and what hasn’t. Unchanged segments are marked as “already translated,” which saves quite a bit on translation jobs. The feature is ideal for documents that are regularly revised and significantly reduces costs and time spent on the translation process – by up to 90% based on real-life examples.

Optimizations in the review hub: Window stays where it should

The review hub now remembers the position and size of the window – even if screen configurations are changed. The next time you open a window, it will appear right where the last one was, or automatically adjust itself to the visible area as needed. A small improvement with major added convenience in day-to-day business.

Copying production settings: Reuse instead of recreating

Production settings can now easily be copied – either directly from the three-point menu or by using the button in the footer. Variant profiles and publication parameters are carried over so that new productions are based on established settings. This saves time and reduces sources of error.

Multiple selection in document structure: makes collective editing easy

Thanks to new multiple selection, it is now possible to select multiple modules, placeholders, or containers at once – and then move, delete, or copy them. Your selection stays even if you switch between the content and resource views. It will even be kept after a document version change, if possible.

Multiple selection actions: drag & drop, context menu, and more

Specific actions are now available for multiple elements selected at the same time: delete with del, move with drag & drop, copy and cut with key combinations or using the context menu. This allows comprehensive contents to be organized faster and with more structure – all without the effort of individual steps.

Expanded clipboard: Everything at a glance

The clipboard’s features have been expanded. Containers and placeholders can now be added, too – with symbols and tool tips to help guide you. Multiple elements can be transferred at the same time using drag & drop. A new button clears the clipboard with one click as needed.

Expanded media integration: add PDFs and videos directly

Media such as PDFs and videos can now be added directly via the toolbar – either in the cursor position or in appropriate containers. Existing media content can be replaced without having to manually create structures first. This significantly speeds up the workflow for visually preparing your content.

Improvement in fixtext management and publication protocols

Fixtexts are now organized in separate files by specific language – providing a better overview and easier maintenance.

The log file for publications has been made more clear: messages can be filtered, expanded, and collapsed, and error codes are displayed better in groups.

Result: A release that makes everyday editorial work easier

Whether translation, structure, output, or media handling – the new version delivers practical improvements for daily work. Many features are based on feedback from the community. Anyone who regularly produces technical documentation will profit from greater efficiency, clarity, and flexibility with XR.
