Improved functions for efficient document management – gds launches new release of the XR/engineering content management system
- Even more efficient options for creating and managing documents
- Callout Editor for labeling graphic images on multiple levels
- Web-based Review Client puts an end to having to manage paper notes
Sassenberg, July 03, 2023 – gds GmbH, one of the leading providers of content management systems, would like to announce the publication of the latest update to XR/engineering. With the release of Imola, new functions and optimizations are introduced that allow even more effective management of corporate documents.
Powerful new features
One of the prominent features is the Callout Editor, which enables writers to add information to graphic images on multiple levels. Thanks to the versatile, consecutive numbering of components, this editor offers maximum flexibility for the design and creation of engaging and meaningful information.

Die Diff publishing is revolutionizing the process of marking revisions in documents. This feature enables writers to automatically have all revisions to the text marked in the new versions as compared to the previous or desired version. This helps save valuable time and enables working efficiently.

The web-based review client "reviewhub" facilitates team collaboration and expedites the approval process. Writers are in a position to provide feedback directly from the system and edit documents without having to exchange PDFs. The reviewhub provides team members with information on revisions and offers a status management feature for an overview of the correction process.

The improved cross-reference manager lets you effortlessly manage and update the cross-references in documents. This tool is integrated into the sidebar and provides comprehensive information on the document structure. Across several documents, writers can select the content they would like to make reference to and set distinct link destinations. This ensures a high degree of flexibility concerning cross-references. The process is supported by reports to help identify cross-references that are no longer valid or functional.

The release also includes a new import function for metadatenin the JSON/XML format so that customers can easily import metadata to XR from other systems such as ERP systems. This feature helps to avoid errors and double data maintenance because the metadata already exists in a separate system. The import and export of metadata enable the efficient integration and editing of data.

New lists for abbreviations and references have also been introduced. Customers can save abbreviations and literature sources as resources to have an index created automatically. This helps optimize the organization of information while the essential references are quickly at hand
The filterung functions for variant management have been improved to enable a targeted search for specific validities and variables. The clear presentation of features and the possibility of showing and hiding content facilitate work especially if there are a lot of variables.

Furthermore system optimizations and usability improvements have been implemented to further maximize user-friendliness. The internal editor now provides the option of showing or hiding tabs, which improves the overview of the sidebar. The display of the start page in the tab bar has been optimized, and the system performance has been further improved.
"With this new release, we are offering our customers an even higher performing platform to manage their documents,” says Tobias Kreimann, Product Manager of Software at gds GmbH. “The new functions and optimizations have been developed to further enhance the workflow, facilitate collaboration, and increase productivity.
